ZuluProwlerI've just noticed that the boots on my upper rear lateral links have degraded. It does not mean the links are damaged but it prompted me to dig for a replacement. I might just install some O-rings to keep the lube in place but later it will be a problem. Digging through old posts brought up the following link and supplier who stills seems to be active - FYI

GETRAMDGreat information. Thank you!

ClayDAt that price, better get a couple of extra sets for spares!
koolktyControl freak links are what I had installed 3 years ago and so far working well.
Dave HaggasZulu, this is all your fault. Your replacing the rubber boots on the front drop links made me do mine.
I’ll look into my rear ones now!

ZuluProwlerSorry Dave, my bad! I have no excuse other than being annoyed to find a little piece of rubber under my car after washing the inside of the rear rims. Rear laterals matter I guess...
Dave HaggasI have to report that I purchased 16 boots that fit perfectly on the rear lateral links.
I also have a theory as to why they tear and fail.
There is a purple wire coil that goes on the larger side of the boot and a Smaller yellow wire that goes on the smaller hole of the boot. The larger one means the boot is gripped to the outer joint, the smaller to the sleeve part. Naturally the arm moves with the suspension. The boot is very shallow and hence the movement literally tears the boot to pieces. Answer is to simply put the boot in place. No need to secure as such. You do not need it to be clamped. I did lock wire one in place but it really does not need it.
Size of replacement boot 19x28x16. It cost me £25 for 16 of these.
Send me your e mail and I can send a link if interested.

ZuluProwlerFantastic solution. If you can get ahead of the curve and not let the lube degrade, you extend the life of the link. 'Dry Rot' is often 'Heat and no lube' consequence so an early fix makes this moot. I'm excited about getting the details....

stprinzI GOT THE CONTROLL FREAKS LATERAL LINKS ALREADY FRO 5-6 YARS NOW IN MY PROWLER, CHANGED THEM TOGETHER WITH DEN FRONT VERTICAL LINKS FROM "SPOONS". AS I PICKED UP THE CAR THE RIDE WAS SO SMOOTH AS A BRAND NEW CAR. LIKE IT A LOT
Dave HaggasRefurbished links with the new boots.
RPLDave Haggas - Very nice work! Where did you source the boots?
Dave HaggasHi Bob, thank you!
I sent the link to Zulu, it is a few posts above this one.
Perfect fit but DONT put the metal clips on. In my opinion they are the root of the problem. But if you feel they need something, then only put the larger one on OR the smaller one, not both.
But if you do the job, once you have cleaned the remains of the torn boot and old grease, it becomes apparent.
Any further info, please do feel free to contact me.
ZuluProwlerI fitted my new boots today. It was a simple repair. I did them one at a time to avoid alignment issues. My joints were in excellent condition and after the service (clean and re-grease) they moved freely with simple hand pressure. I tried installing my clips and found it impossible to get the larger one on. I settled for the small outer. As Dave mentions, it is somewhat redundant anyway.

I received the set of front/rear links rubber boots that you sent to me. Superb quality.
Big thanks Dave Haggas

yokennyrLooks like I am needing to add these rubber boots to my rear lateral links. How many boots fit in each link? One on each end, so two? Or four for each lateral link?
1stMadManFour for each link 👍

Plymouth Prowler set of new rubber boots for the rear upper arms. 16 pcs.
I offer you the most reliable and inexpensive way to repair cracked and leaking grease, old rear side rods. Just take off old cracked rubber boots, add new any lithium lubricant, put on new boots. In such cases, you should not do the alignment in a specialized workshop. Ease of installation. Everything can be done by yourself in the garage.
